Mr Ahmad Aly is a General Surgeon and Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon, Head of Upper GI Surgery at The Austin Hospital, and a senior lecturer and researcher with Melbourne University.

Mr Ahmad Aly, MB.BS, FRACS, MS, is a General Surgeon and Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon. He trained at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne, and completed subspecialist fellowships in Adelaide and the U.K, gaining expertise in the full spectrum of upper gastrointestinal surgeon before returning to Melbourne in 2005. He is the Head of Upper GI Surgery at The Austin Hospital, a senior lecturer and researcher with Melbourne University. He is also a board member of ANZGOSA and OSSANZ.

Ahmad is extensively well published at an international level. He also presents at conferences locally and internationally. On a local scene, Ahmad and our practice at “Advanced Surgical” conduct “Master Classes” for aspiring surgeons developing subspecialty practice.

Head of Upper GI Surgery

At The Austin Hospital, Ahmad as the Head of Upper GI Surgery established two subspecialty post fellowship positions. One with an Upper Gastrointestinal focus, the other with an Obesity Research focus. During this time, he established databases in gastrointestinal surgery, reflux, cancer work and obesity. Using this benchmark, Ahmad ensures that The Austin competes nationally and internationally with other institutions.
Ahmad believes in mentoring, teaching and training the next generation of surgeons. He actively participates and chairs the Upper Gastrointestinal cancer meeting (MDT) at the Austin.
